Now if you are strictly a Windows person then you might want to look into MediaPortal, though I don't guarantee it will work with your HDHomeRun, however they have some of the best user support in their forums I have ever seen. TVHeadEnd is just the opposite, it works great with supported satellite tuners, but it takes a lot of fiddling (that requires some degree of Linux expertise) to make it recognize a HDHomeRun. It seems to have no problem with HDHomeRuns, but a lot of problem recognizing free-to-air satellite tuners. The next question is, do you have any experience with Linux? If so, then I would suggest using Mythbuntu as your backend system. Otherwise you will only be able to use it with an antenna. Your HDHomeRun Prime will work with a cablecard until your cable company drops support of them, assuming they will even let you install a new one. I don't recall where I read it but it was only a few months ago that I read somewhere that the FCC is going to let the cable companies discontinue support of cablecards. I already have EPG and strms set up that xbmc uses, but I need a PVR backend so I can start recording things that I'd like to watch later but don't need to keep in my xbmc library. It depends on if you are wanting to receive live TV from an antenna, from cable, or from free-to-air satellite.Ĭablecards are basically going away. I posted this on the HDHomeRun support forum and it was suggested I ask here so I'm posting here as well in hopes of getting some help. XBMC still works great, playing all the channels flawlessly. I went into hdhomerun setup and changed the application to either platform and hit apply but that seemed to make absolutely 0 difference. I can get see the tuners, but not grab any channels. I tried mediaportal then because i thought maybe it was nextpvr, but the exact same problem occurred.

The i downloaded nextpvr and tried to set it up and it sees both my tuners (just a single antenna getting over-the-air here in US) but when i click setup device and scan for channels nothing is found.

What do I need to do to set up a pvr service? I currently have hdhomerun set with xbmc and it works wonderfully to choose my channels and get it through there, but I'd prefer to have a pvr and live tv setup in xbmc so I can pause, rewind, and record.
